(MOBILE, Ala.) July 3 -
If you're out driving the roads this weekend, don't be surprised if you get some extra attention from law enforcement.
Alabama State Troopers have multiple checkpoints set up in both Mobile and Baldwin counties this week. NBC 15 rode along with troopers and found out what can happen if you don’t follow the law this weekend.
Finding yourself handcuffed and headed to jail is not the ideal way to start your holiday weekend, but if you’re not careful this Fourth of July weekend, troopers say you could end up behind bars.
Friday night at an intersection in Semmes, troopers started stopping vehicles looking for anything suspicious. Some people were given breathalyzers for drunk driving, and some people were given tickets for no insurance.
Troopers wrote ticket after ticket, but they say they’ll write as many tickets as necessary if it means saving lives.
Last Fourth of July weekend, Alabama State Troopers say 16 people died in vehicle crashes, and three of those deaths were alcohol related. Their goal for this holiday weekend is to prevent as many accidents as possible, and troopers say they will be out through Sunday checking for suspicious drivers and working towards that goal.
