Travelers come to Mobile to board Carnival's cruise ship Fantasy.
Brian Pinson brought his nephew from Sylacauga.
When asked what he'd miss most from the traditional Thanksgiving meal, Brian's nephew Jerome says, "I'll definitely miss the turkey!" says Brian's nephew Jerome.
John Hood came from Arkansas with his wife, Maxine.
"How long have you been together?"
"50 years!" says Maxine.
And Mark Sullivan came all the way from St. Louis with his wife and kids.
"Are you guys excited?"
"Yeah!" his two young daughters shout.
Yes, all of these people and others have come to Mobile this Thanksgiving day to celebrate the holiday. But their celebration doesn't involve a turkey at all today, it involves a ship! A very big ship! While you're trying to grab gifts on sale tomorrow, about two thousand people from the gulf coast and across the country will be enjoying a sail of their own... sailing aboard carnival's Fantasy cruise ship. No, it's not a traditional Thanksgiving experience. And that's the point.
"So you guys have never done this?" I ask the Pinsons.
"No. It's our first cruise," says Brian.
"And he asked you to come along?"
"That's right," replies Jerome.
"Good for you!"
"Yeah, I'm just down for the ride!"
Mark Sullivan from St Louis says Mobile offered one of only a few cruses that departs Thanksgiving Day. It seemed like a great idea...
"Well, my mom went on a two week cruise to Hawaii, so we thought, well, why cook dinner? We'll go on a cruise, too!"
But John and Maxine Hood had no choice in the matter. Their children are taking them on the cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary.
"So you're not really getting away, are you? You're bringing the whole family."
"Yeah. But we don't have to cook!" says a happy Maxine!
Happy Anniversary AND Thanksgiving, Mrs. Hood!
