(SEMMES, Ala.) Thirty-seven-year-old James Walls was picked up by sheriff's deputies Tuesday morning after a tipster told them he'd been abusing two under aged girls. And if investigators wondered if they had the right guy, Walls' own conversation with the media as he was lead to a patrol car removed any doubt.
"Did you do this?"
"Yes," he replied.
"You did do it?"
"Yes."
Walls also said he was ashamed at his actions. And a review of the charges reveals why. Rape, sodomy, and, yes, incest.
Three awful crimes that, police believe, happened in a trailer park in Semmes.
Sheets hang in the windows of the trailer, concealing the awful crimes that police, and even Walls, agree took place behind closed doors.
Lt. Paul Burch spoke of the crimes delicately, seeking to protect the identity of the victims.
"As we know right now, it's been going on for a couple of years," he said. "They will be provided help and, hopefully, take the help and be able to move forward with their lives."
But investigators will tell you they're both shocked and troubled, not only about Wall's behavior, but that of someone else, the behavior of someone who discovered what was happening two weeks ago, but never went to law enforcement.
That person is the mother of the two girls.
"Yeah, he confessed everything to me, everything what had happened," she told us. "He confessed everything."
The woman said she became suspicious about six months ago, but never put it all together until one of her daughters confided in her two weeks ago.
"I had in my mind for two weeks what I should have done, and when this happened last Monday," she said. "For a week now, I realized I done wrong."
And now, James Walls, is admitting he has done wrong, too.
"I love my family, and that's why I'm doing it," he said. "I gotta do what I have to do."
