(GULFPORT, Miss.) - Gulfport police say a 26-year-old man who died in a traffic accident was speeding and apparently had avoided a head-on collision before his car hit a guard rail.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove tells The Sun Herald Barry J. Youngblood of Gulfport died in Thursday's crash.

Police Chief Alan Weatherford said witnesses reported Youngblood was westbound when it changed lanes and hit the guard rail on the east side of the road.

He said Youngblood was not wearing a seat belt.
