(BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala.) The owner of a dog shot and killed by a Baldwin County Sheriff's deputy planned to meet with the department Wednesday.

The shooting happened near Fairhope on Monday.

The responding deputy claims the dog was acting aggressively and he shot it when it lunged at him.

But witnesses say the dog was on its own porch, wagging its tail.

The shooting is under internal investigation.

@artie: To answer your question, this is a COMMENT SECTION. This case is under INTERNAL INVESTIGATION. Until the results are published all these comments are opinions and nothing more. I stated mine. Do you understand that now? A refresher course in basic English Comp may be the order of the day. Elementary School is a good place to start.

'Feeling threatened' and actually being under threat are two entirely different things. If the dog was on the front porch when it was shot and killed then the deputy needs to be fired or severely reprimanded. If there was a problem then animal control is the proper agency to handle such situations. We don't need cowboy deputies shooting up our neighborhoods. We already have a demographic that is doing that job all too well.

He sure served and protected the hell out of that poor dog didn't he? I can think of no justification for shooting and killing a dog that is sitting on its owner's front porch. The dispatcher receiving the call from the complainant should have dispatched animal control to the area before dispatching a deputy. The dog had apparently lived in the neighborhood for years so it's really unlikely he was a threat to anyone. More likely an ***hole neighbor just didn't like the dog for whatever reason and saw an opportunity to cause trouble for his\her neighbor.

Were you there? Do you know for sure what your stating? Dont be so judgemental when ALL the FACTS are unknown to you. Many animals can and will turn hostile under some conditions. I'm not affiliated with law enforcement and sometimes debate their actions, but to criticize a deputy for "Serving and Protecting" the community is wrong unless you were actually there and know ALL the facts. If this animal had attacked and mauled a child what would your comment be? Think about it. A child is mauled by a family pet and then sits on the front poarch wagging its tail. Sweet looking animal huh? The LEO arrives and the animal attacks. What would you do if you were the LEO? And yes, I am an animal lover AND owner. Animals WILL turn hostile when conditions are right to them. That is the time for forcefull actions by those who feel threatened.

I don't understand why the deputy didn't call animal control as he should have. I'm sure that's standard operating procedure in such situations since the deputy clearly embellished the facts and outright LIED REGARDING HIS ACTIONS. If the dog was in fact bothersome, or not contained within a fenced area if such fencing is required by law, then the deputy under the circumstances as described by witnesses should have called animal control. Those witnesses who spoke publicly regarding the deputy's conduct are to be commended for doing so and not allowing an outrage and injustice to go without consequence. I think of my dog who's never met a stranger much to my disappointment which, although she might look menacing to a thug with her tail wagging and submissive posture when approached, is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever rescued. And I've been rescuing them for nearly 60 years now. My first dog rescue was at age 8 with my sister in downtown Fairhope when protect and serve actually meant something to those whose cars have that phrase attached.

Let me have a few minutes with the crappy deputy! I will treat him with the same regard as he did to the pup. What a coward piece of crap Baldwin County hired. I would love to have him privately!
