(SEMMES, Ala.) Nov. 28 - Deaths on Alabama highways are now at three after the Thanksgiving holiday.
27-year-old Jeremy Evans of Semmes is the third person to die on state roads this holiday season, after his pick-up collided with an 18-wheeler on Highway 98.
Alabama Troopers say both accidents and deaths on state roads almost always spike between now and Christmas, this year turning out to be no different.
Corporal Al Smith with the Alabama State Patrol says they do not believe alcohol was a factor in Evans' accident, but says it so often is during the holidays.
To make sure they are avoided, troopers offer more than just a warning. Smith says expect them to be working overtime on state roads. "In alabama we've been aggressive in our patrolling over the holidays. We've brought those numbers down significantly in the past several years, using aggressive enforcement and aggressive patrol."
Corporal Smith was unable to provide exact numbers as to just how many accidents increase during the holidays, only that most can be prevented.
