(MOBILE, Ala.)  When Mallory Owens looks in the mirror ,"I don't like what I see," she says, "but I see a very lucky person, though."

She says she's lucky to be alive after being rushed to USA Medical Center Thanksgiving night , her face so badly beaten she was unrecognizable.

"The last thing I remember was us about to leave," she recalled. "And that is all I remember at all. The next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital."

Investigators believe the incident happened at a house on Bourgeois Circle, the home of her girlfriend's father, Travis Hawkins, Senior. It was a place Mallory says she's never felt comfortable, but went there that night at her girlfriend's request.

"I don't think her dad liked me," said Mallory. "I do not think I was his favorite person. He had told me that several times. He has made numerous threats to me, him and his son."

It was the son, Travis Hawkins, Jr., who has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault in the case.

Mallory says there has always been friction between the two because Travis, Jr didn't like his sister dating a girl. In fact, she claims, he's assaulted her before. So why, then, did Mallory return to that same house for a short time after being released from the hospital? She did it, she said, because of her girlfriend, Allie.

"I wasn't comfortable going over there," she said. "This is a place where I had just been assaulted. I was scared, you know? I wanted to make Alex happy. I wanted to be there for her."

Mallory credits her supportive family for giving her the strength she needs now, and in the days ahead. Those days will include more visits to the doctor and the courthouse. But there is one place she says she won't be going. That's to the house on Bourgeois Circle.

"There's no more trying. I done trying with that," said Mallory.

I almost felt sorry for her until reading this. Sure, he was truly in the wrong for beating her. However, continuing to go over there proves her ignorance as well. This story is a bunch of "white trash" nonsense.

The pictures of that beautiful girl's battered face is what all the sensaton this story needed. She is the victim, and as is often the case, the victim is being put on trial. She was released from the hospital quickly because she's uninsured, not because her injuries weren't serious. It's appaling to me that people are so callous after seeing the horrific pictures. This girl could have been my daughter or yours, mayhemman, please have compassion.Would you feel the same if your wife, daughter, etc. was laying there bloodied and broken? How would you feel if people were saying it was no big deal. Now consider this girl's family....you should be ashamed!

This is much ado about nothing, People get beat up every single day in the world. The buzzwords like gay and lesbian are meant to garner interest and sensationalize the story. That's what the media always does, cherry-pick a subject and exploit it to make the story more juicier and increase interest. Notice when there is a race and sexual angle the media runs with it and uses it for propaganda to incite the masses. If this would have been just two dudes or chicks fighting the media would have passed on the lame story. The beating was hardly life threatening, if that was the case then this victim would not have recovered so quickly and giving media interviews requested by the media. She is milking this for all it's worth.

^^^Is that you can think about is her being a "lesbian"? I can assure you that there are more important things to think about in this case, that is a little more important! Like the fact that he almost beat her to death. And the fact that this is America and we ALL have the right to live free, whether it be straight or gay! I am straight, and been married for 18 yrs, so its not that I am saying this bc I am gay! I am not, but i think Mallory, and any other man or woman in America, has the right to love who they choose! GET A FRIGGIN LIFE!!!!
