(Dauphin Island, Ala.) The day before its big parade, the Krewe de la Dauphine rushed to get last minute details "wrapped up".
Just like wrapping up a sandwich to keep it fresh, members of this island Krewe were wrapping up their floats to keep them fresh.
And here's why.
Their float barn is located 10 miles from Dauphin Island, on the mainland north of Alabama Port.
"Some of these floats are a little bit brittle and the trip from Dauphin Island is about a 10 mile trip," said KDLD's Ricky Henderson.
"So to get over the bridge we have to take some of the fragile decorations down and then we wrap it in shrink wrap to keep it from damaging the floats."
This year's parade's theme is "Tell Me A Story", which is exactly what each of their 10 floats will do from Cat in the Hat, to Wizard of Oz.
"This story here is Dances With Wolves," said Henderson. "And this is the buffalo head that goes up on the float," he said, pointing to a furry addition to one of the floats.
Minutes later, the procession of freshly wrapped floats headed across the long Dauphin Island Bridge to kick off yet another Mardi Gras season.
The Krewe de la Dauphine parade begins at 1 pm Saturday on Dauphin Island. Get there early, because traffic can be difficult.
