(MOBILE, Ala.) Each Mardi Gras there's a peculiar little city that pops up just under the I-10 bridge downtown. It's called RV City and it's an annual staple for Mobile's Mardi Gras, that has a lot of fun packed into it itself.
Though Mobile native David Coggin has been parading since he was a kid, it's just his second year at RV City.
"It's an easy place to stay in lieu of hotel rooms and if you go to more than one ball it's actually less expensive," Coggin said. He says he'll spend his birthday weekend watching the Inca's and Mystics roll through downtown, reveling with complete strangers.
"I don't know anybody in this group," Coggin said. They kind of threw us together. So we'll know each other by the time this is over with though."
Michael Sullivan is counting on it. Hoping to draw the new comers to his RV block party for a cause.
"We've got some lights set up, some music," Sullivan said. "We're going to be raising money for Multiple Sclerosis through the entire Mardi Gras."
Veteran campers like Sullivan say party hopping under the bridge may be the best part of Mobile Mardi Gras.
"Just about every square you go to you're going to find something to partake in and food," he said. "A lot of people hang out here at the camper city, and you get to know them and stuff like that. it's just a lot of fun."
The downtown experience, they say, is what makes the season in the Port City so unique.
