(BAY MINETTE, Ala.) (AP) July 3 - An Alabama man whose wife disappeared off a cruise ship two weeks ago has hired an attorney to help him get a death certificate for the woman.

Sven Vilborg of Bay Minette says the first step is asking a court for the document. Having a death certificate would let relatives of Michelle Vilborg collect on a $5,000 accidental life insurance policy her husband said she had recently taken out.

Authorities believe Michelle Vilborg went overboard from the Carnival Holiday during a cruise out of Mobile on June 15. The Coast Guard never recovered her body from the Gulf of Mexico.

Sven Vilborg says some relatives want to have a memorial service now. He said he doesn't want to do so until the investigation is complete.
