FAIRHOPE, Ala. (AP) - Hundreds of mourners turned out for the funeral of a south Alabama sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

A U.S. flag covered the casket of Baldwin County Deputy Scott Ward as it was escorted into the Fairhope Civic Center on Tuesday.

American flags lined the side of the road leading from the funeral to the cemetery where a graveside service was planned.

Ward was fatally wounded and another deputy was critically injured while answering a family disturbance call near Fairhope on Friday.

Documents show that the man police say killed Ward had been in and out of mental health treatment. He was shot and killed by deputies.
