(MOBILE, Ala.) - A local gun shop owner has been found guilty on charges he sold firearms without conducting proper background checks.
Larry McCoy, of Larry's Sporting Goods and Pawn Shop, was found guilty of seven of the eleven counts against him today in federal court. His wife, Linda, was found not guilty of the two charges against her.
Larry McCoy was arrested in August 2009 following a two-year undercover investigation. Authorities at the time told LOCAL 15 News McCoy sold weapons to felons, then doctored the books to cover his tracks.
After the verdict, McCoy's attorney, "Cowboy" Bob Clarke, told LOCAL 15 News he believes this case is a way for the federal government to take away the rights of gun owners.
McCoy will be sentenced June 23rd. He faces one to ten years in prison.
