GULF SHORES, Ala. (WPMI) An on-going feud between neighbors involving a fenced-off driveway will soon be resolved in court, one of the neighbors said.
Gulf Shores Resident Pam Vines said she filed a lawsuit Monday against her neighbor, her neighbor's wife, and the couple's mortgage company after they erected a privacy fence blocking part of a driveway that, Vines said, she and her neighbors share.
Vines, who lived on Wallace Circle for 25 years, said she also filed a temporary restraining order against her neighbor in order to have her driveway opened back up to her.
Thursday, Local 15 News spoke to Vines' neighbor, who declined an interview at the advice of his attorney. The neighbor said he had been told to reopen the driveway on Thursday.
Vines, who breeds exotic birds for a living, said up until two weeks ago she used that driveway for 25 years. Now, she said, she lugs bird feed and pet food for the stray animals she cares for from the road behind her home.
"He came out here two weeks ago and put this fence up, and put this gate here and bolted it shut," Vines said. "Some people I know over there (in the neighborhood) allowed me to park in their driveway until this is resolved."
Vines said it all started exactly 74 days ago, when a friend of hers was walking the long driveway to her house, and was stopped by her neighbor.
"Guy (her neighbor) comes out of his garage out there and starts cussing the guy wanting to know where he is and what's he doing there, and told them that he shouldn't even be on my property," Vines said.
Vines said when the shouting escalated she called Gulf Shores Police, and, since then, she said she called police six more times claiming her neighbor was harassing her.
"I even called them the night that he was caught by one of the neighbors in the woods staring at me, and they said they couldn't do anything unless he was on private property," Vines said. "I said, 'Look, this is getting kind of creepy, and I'm afraid."
Since the fence had gone up, the neighbors even installed security cameras pointed at each other's homes. Vines said she hopes to resolve in court what she said has been a confusing ordeal.
"I still, honestly, do not know exactly what his problem is, and what did I do," Vines said.
