(MOBILE, Ala.)   We're learning more about Lawrence Wallace, who killed Officer Steven Green Friday afternoon. Before Wallace over powered Green in the sally port at Mobile Metro Jail, LOCAL 15 News taped him getting into a police cruiser. In the video, Wallace grabs a medallion he's wearing, an object he may have used to kill Green.

Wallace's stepfather says he made jewelry and is certain he made that necklace. Charlie Harden says his stepson went to Bishop State to learn how to make jewelry.

"He graduated as a designer of jewelry," said Harden. "He was very innovative with his hands."

Wallace even talked about his necklace while walking to the patrol car.

"You see that? That's a hole 36. If you want it, you can get it split. That's a 9 right there, you know what I'm talking about?" said Wallace.

Wallace was being taken to jail Friday because police say he robbed a Dollar General store and set a small fire. He was arrested for robbery in 2007 and last April, was arrested for marijuana possession.

Harden says as he mourns the loss of his stepson, his thoughts and prayers are also with Officer Green's family.

"It's a tragedy," said Harden. "I just wish it never happened."

Horrible Police procedures and actions by everyone that came in contact with this guy. Even Spokesperson Ashley Raines holding the rear door of Police Headquarters saw this. All the Officers that were standing around laughong, the Detectives, and perhaps the Chief of Police himself basically ignored the weapon hanginng aroud his neck. The public like myself saw it on TV and was outraged before I even knew he attacked and killed a Police Officer. The first thing I noticed was the long necklace with medallion and how it was eager to display it to the cameras.

I asked the same thing flamekiller. It seems to me that since they frisk people and remove guns, they should remove anything sharp like that too. Even if he didn't have a weapon or used it to stab, he could have taken the chain and used it to garrot the officer. That necklace should have been removed.
