Alleged Gang Rape Victim Speaks Out
(MONROEVILLE, Ala.) Nov. 19 - It's a crime sending shockwaves throughout a South Alabama community: two teenage girls allegedly gang raped.
Police have charged DeShon Riley, 16, Steven Scott, 20, and Justin Williams, 17, each with one count of rape. The district attorney for Monroe County says more charges could be coming.
One of the girls involved spoke exclusively to LOCAL 15 News. The 14-year-old girl, who we will not identify, says what led to rape charges for these three began with a phone call Sunday night.
"I said Steve, I have a friend on the other line," she said. "She wants to have sex tomorrow. He was like, ok. That's fine."
She says Scott and Williams picked up her and her 14-year-old girl friend from school Monday morning. She says they brought the girls to a house where each paired off in a bedroom.
"I laid down on my back," she said. "He tried at first. It hurt, I screamed."
The girl was asked by LOCAL 15 News if she wanted to have sex with him.
"Yes, we all agreed," she said.
She says she and her friend then switched sex partners. Afterwards, they picked up Riley and brought him to the house. She says they each had sex with him, too.
"How did you feel after that?" asked Ramey.
"Really, I felt a little embarrassed and hurt cause she kept bleeding," the girl said of her friend. "But I didn't feel anything at the moment."
She says the boys dropped them off near their school, where by now it was 3rd period. She says a teacher must have noticed her friend was bleeding and notified officials. Police say the girl was so badly injured, she had to be flown to Mobile for surgery.
"Now, I see that my friend is going through a lot in Mobile and it really bothers me a lot," the girl said.
Though she says the sex was consensual, her grandmother says 14-year-olds can't give consent.
"They need to rot," her grandmother said. "They need to be punished because they know better."
"What I really learned was to take my time, wait til... I should've waited til I was old enough and mature," the girl said.
She says she does not have any physical injuries, but her grandmother says she will be seeing a counselor to address the emotional ones.
Later this month, a grand jury will determine whether there should be additional charges. The suspects could face more rape charges since both girls are 14 years old. The legal age to consent is 16.
LOCAL 15 News has also spoken with the mother of the other 14-year-old girl. She says her daughter is now out of the hospital.
