2 Dead in Shipyard Explosion

(MOSS POINT, Miss.) Nov. 20 -- The Jackson County, Miss. coroner has now confirmed the names of two people killed during an explosion at a Gulf Coast shipyard.

The men killed in the explosion are Alex Caballera, 25, and Dwight Monroe, 52 of Moss Point.

The explosion happened about 4 p.m. Friday at the VT Halter Marine in Moss Point. Officials say four people were also injured during the blast. They were treated at both Singing River Hospital and U.S.A Medical Center.

Officials say a 120-foot tug boat that pushes barges was being cleaned when the explosion happened. It's not clear right now what caused the blast.

VT Halter Marine's corporate office is in Pascagoula, and its shipbuilding operation is in nearby Moss Point.

The explosion is still being investigated.
