(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) Agents with the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board have seized about 135 gallons of illegal moonshine whiskey in Lowndes County.

WSFA-TV reports that it's the second still seized and destroyed at the same location in the last year. The illegal alcohol has an approximate street value of $4,050 or about $30 per gallon.

The moonshine was seized on Thursday from an abandoned shack approximately 40 yards from the active still site.

ABC Enforcement Captain Hal Taylor says that moonshine is not only illegal but also a public health concern. It is typically made in very unsanitary conditions and people who drink it are taking a big chance.

No arrests have been made in the case.

We were getting shine delivered to our back door in fruit jars years ago. I dont know of anyone here that makes good shine anymore. It would be nice to have some good stuff.

Hey Native...it ain't the Feds, it's the state. I brought back a case of Rolling Rock from home 30 years ago to pass out to my chums. Went to a birthday party at the Pillars and brought in a six pack as a gift. I thought the owner was going to stroke out. He grabbed it from me and hid it until it was time to go. Also, if you have ever been in a thirst parlor when the ABC spot checks it, the most important thing they look fore is tax stamps on the bottles. They check every one, I Don't know if it true or not, but I have been told the state has stamps printed for Pot. There may be more than Hooch cooking back in the woods!

I guess if the Feds could tax it then it would be fine, safe and legal.

.....ya but there is nothing better than a good jug of White Lightning on Saturday night. The best stuff comes from an area stretching from SW Arkansas to SE Oklahoma.

Well, I guess the price of a gallon of High Test just doubled...I hate it when that happens! It's a good thing they didn't find the still. It's been a while since the ABC had a bust like this...usually the Sheriff's Office busted the stills. When I moved here in 74, there was probably a still busted every few weeks for several years...I guess the moonshiners just got smarter because it's still around...you just have to know where to look. Before there were Crack Houses there were Shot Houses all over Mobile. There busiest day was Sunday. You could get Holy Water by the shot, pint or jug. Oh, how I miss those days!
