(MOBILE, Ala.)  July 3 - A 60-year-old Mobile man is behind bars charged with rape and sodomy. Police say the rape happened on Schwartz St. As NBC 15's Andrea Ramey reports, police sources say the victim was a prostitute and she may not be his only victim.

Neighbors say the area is known for prostitution. They say abandoned homes and vacant lots down the road are used as motels. But according to police sources 60-year- old Calvin Land didn't choose one of those places to rape his victim. Instead, they say he used his van just around the corner in his own front yard. Which is also his aunt Mollie James' front yard, too. Land's been living with her for several years. She says last night her yard was flooded with blue lights.

"I said he didn't kill somebody! I don't understand why all you out here for! I know his mother! Five car loads of police for raping a hoopy-hoochie hoopy-doopy momma!"

James says Land knew the victim, who sources say is a 37-year-old prostitute. James said the two were friendly with each other and would talk in the street.

"What ever they were doing, she called the law cause the deal went bad. He say he didn't do it," said James.

This isn't Land's first run in with the law either. Sources says he's a suspect in the rape of another prostitute. And in May a woman who his aunt describes as his wife took out an order of protection.

"He know about jail and prison too. So that's the reason I ain't worried. He know about jail," said James.

Neighbors say this incident is just the latest in a long string of sketchy behavior that happens in their streets. One neighbor told us he wishes police would crack down.

"Got to have police come out here, put some barricades, keep the cars from going down there and making love. And tear down them houses and everything would be fine."
