Big kid puppets

Big kids can have fun creating and telling stories with puppets. While making brown bag and paper plate puppets are challenging to toddlers, this age group might prefer the more intricate process of making sock puppets. While they're relatively simple to make, children can practice basic sewing skills during this project. Try sewing on buttons for eyes and noses, and yarn for hair. How about a whole cast of puppet characters? Try using a knit glove to create finger puppets. By using sequins or beads for facial features, different colors of yarn for hair, and fabric scraps for apron-like clothes, you may be able to create a Goldilocks and the three bears puppet glove. Or even one with the cast of Cinderella. If you have several children, help them create a new story for the puppets they've made. Once the story line is decided, they can act out the tale with the puppets.
