Each board certified lawyer has demonstrated substantial involvement in the certified area, passed a rigorous written examination, participated in a substantial amount of continuing education above that required of all Bar members, and has successfully completed the peer review process. The board certification process allows the public to choose a lawyer with specialized skills and experience, while adding an element of confidence. To become board certified as a civil trial attorney, for example, a lawyer must demonstrate substantial involvement in civil trial law. For more information on board certification of attorneys, please consult your local bar association.
