The best way to get rid of pests in your home is never to let them in. Each year, termites alone cause more than a billion dollars in damages to buildings in the U.S. A thorough termite program can prevent this by creating a barrier that termites can't penetrate. Similarly, ventilators and other openings can be covered with protective coverings that will keep out birds and rodents. Openings around pipes can be sealed to stop roaches and other insects. Another important pest prevention program is simply cleanliness. Pests won't go where there's no food or water. Clean counters and floors usually have no attraction for them. And regular vacuuming removes quite a few tiny creatures. Any reputable pest control service should be able to provide you with more information on preventing pests from entering your home, and removing those that somehow slip through. If you're unsure just how pest-free your home really is, ask an expert for a home inspection.
