On a lunch interview, you'll need to observe all the rules of dining etiquette, as well as interview guidelines. Some people find the lunch interview to be a more relaxing format; depending largely on where the lunch is taking place. It's a good idea to call the restaurant in advance: to find out its exact location, and how formal it is. You may even want to consider visiting the restaurant ahead of time to familiarize yourself with the atmosphere and surroundings. At the interview, watch your companion for cues. Try to order something similar in price. But don't order an alcoholic drink, even if they do. Avoid any type of food that's awkward to eat. The meeting may commence with a little small talk, and that's fine. But once the interview begins, try to keep the focus on business. It goes without saying, don't talk with your mouth full. Take small bites, so it's easier to answer questions. When the bill comes, offer to contribute, as a courtesy, even though the interviewer will almost always pick up the tab.
