His "Leonard's Look" segments highlighted regular folks around the country going about their everyday routines. Asked by co-host Matt Lauer if he had a favorite story from his career at the show, Leonard responded that it was the people he enjoyed rather than their stories. He cited a recent feature on an African-American mail carrier in Chicago who was an integral part of the civil rights movement.

What was the best TV show of 2012?

As part of his final broadcast, Leonard showed a segment highlighting his recent 65th birthday celebration with his family — wife Kathy and their four grown children — at their home in Winnetka, Ill.
