Can Hannibal Lecter be NBC's savior on Thursday nights?

Hannibal, a contemporary take on Thomas Harris' Red Dragon novel, will take over Do No Harm's vacant slot beginning Thursday, April 4 at 10/9c, TVGuide.com has confirmed. Series executive producer Bryan Fuller first tweeted the news Thursday evening.

The thriller stars Hugh Dancy as FBI agent Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as the cannibalistic Dr. Lecter. The series also stars Laurence Fishburne, Eddie Izzard, Gillian Anderson, Caroline Dhavernas, and Gina Torres, among others.

NBC has failed to find a series that would gain traction on Thursdays at 10/9c this season. Do No Harm was canceled after only two episodes when a mere 2.2 million viewers tuned in for its second outing, a 22 percent drop from its premiere.
