(MOBILE Ala.) -Summer vacation is coming to an abrupt end, some kids head back to school this week, most will return Monday.

If you're like most working parents, you slacked off a little during the summer with those nutrition packed lunches for your kids. Now it's time to get back on the ball.

With childhood obesity at an all time high, what's the best way to make sure your kids are getting a healthy, well-balanced lunch? Dietitians say you may want to try brown bagging it. The next question, what to pack?

"Make sure your kids have lean protein and complex carbohydrates, it helps them stay full longer, stay satisfied longer, they can concentrate better, they're not as tired, they don't get as easily distracted," said registered dietitian Lila Sanders with the Delicious Dietitian.

Sanders, says grab plenty of fruits and veggies, that covers your complex carbohydrates and when it comes to lean protein, low fat dairy and fresh meats are best.

"Stay away from lots of processed meats, it's pumped with additives and sugars and things like that," Sanders suggests.

Let's not forget breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day. Dietitians say starting off with a well-balanced breakfast jump starts your metabolism and let's your body know it's time to get started!
