(Mobile, Ala.) October 1st -Each year local carnival style food vendors get rave reviews for their corn dogs and polish sausages, but is the food safe?  Before the first act takes center stage, first food vendors must pass inspector's command performance. You'll be glad to know vendor operating temporary kitchens at Bayfest, The Shrimp Festival and the County Fair are all inspected, tested and in some cases scored on their knowledge of sanitary conditions. The food police in Mobile and Baldwin counties work overtime during events like this to make certain your festival or midway menus are safe.

Now check out what other commercial kitchens hit a sour note with inspectors during their surprise inspection last week.

Jai Lakshmi, Incorporated, located in Magnolia Springs may be a limited food operation but, the food police say the violations they recently uncovered were plenty. Inspector’s September 22nd report shows employee drinks improperly stored, a broken hand sink,  dirty ice dispenser on the coke machine and  mold growing on a couple of sandwiches in the cooler. Jai Lakshmi is serving up the area’s lowest score this week, 68. State Code says a minimum score of 85 and higher is considered passing.

The Courtyard Café’ located in Foley also typically serves up impressive scores, however last week they health inspectors say they missed the mark. Inspector’s September 23rd report shows violations, including bare hands touching your ready to eat food.  They also needed a vacuum breaker on all their spigots. Health officials also discovered a problem with the concentration of sanitizer in the dishwasher. Last time Courtyard Café’ had an impressive score of 97.  This week, they’re only serving up 83 points. Again, 85 and higher is considered passing.

Of course we can't forget about our Scorecard Standouts:
