CULLMAN, Ala. (WPMI) A slick Alabama interstate was closed when a semitrailer jack-knifed, the latest in a series of wrecks on the snow and ice-covered pavement as north and central Alabama tried to get back to normal after a winter storm dumped up to 4 inches of snow.
Dozens of school systems, businesses and government offices planned to open late Friday to let roads thaw out after an overnight freeze. The delays extended from the Tennessee line as far south as metro Birmingham.
Motorists were stuck on Interstate 65 north of Cullman for seven or more hours Thursday after a series of wrecks snarled the highway. The backup extended for miles and lasted until after dark.
Then, WBRC-TV reports that the semi wrecked in the Cullman area early Friday morning, prompting authorities to close the interstate.
