About health care.
About taking vacations!
About living life better.
But one of the important issues they came here to learn today was about television... and how to keep getting it!
The issue? The digital tv switch!
When the Area Agency on Aging opened the doors for it's Senior Lifestyle Expo, the curious among you flowed in. Among them, Mt. Vernon City Council member Verdell Trotter Dees, who says she's concerned about some of her neighbors who might not be ready for the big digital tv switch now scheduled for June.
"Most of the people are on a fixed income," she says, "and those who are not, they have the cable or the dish, or Mediacom, and they're already prepared for this. But we have a lot of seniors who are NOT prepared for this!"
By now, most people know that all tv station in the US will be turning off their old analogue transmitters and leaving on their new digital transmitters witch are send better quality signals with less power. The change has caused some people to worry... including some of those living in the apartment's Tracee Wallace manages.
"Yes, they were! Initially they were," Tracee tells me. "But after we talked to them and said it was for the good, it was for better reception, they were excited about it."
"They wanted to make sure they didn't miss it."
"Right, didn't want to miss their favorite stories.... and their favorite news. They don't want to miss Darwin..."
"There are some people who don't have to worry about it at all. Who are they?"
"They are those people already on cable, Dish or Direct TV."
"So if they've got those services, they're ready to go?"
"They're ok."
If you're not on satellite or cable, you'll need a new Digital TV Set ... and a roof top UHF antennae before the big switch in June. But if you have more questions...
"What I'd recommend they do is go to our web channel, NBC 15 on line dot com, under DTV questions. They can find informations there, or call
602-1500..."
...because I certainly wouldn't want you to miss... me. At the Fairgrounds, Here's Darwin, NBC 15 News.
