How do we know? They tell Darwin so!
They LOVE New Orleans... and New Orleans and the Gulf Coast loves them back. Though LIVE with Regis and Kelly has broadcast from New Orleans over the years, the couple has been adamant about returning to the city after Hurricane katrina. And this time, Regis has noticed something promising-
"We see a tremendous change in the city!" he tells me, with his special brand of enthusiasm. A bit of progress, optimism and a city that's regaining its vitality.
"On every street corner, someone is singing!" he says. "Miley Cyrus just happens to be singing now!"
He's right. I can hear her voice as she warms up for her segment of the next show. Thanks for the song, Miley, because this is a perfect chance for me to catch up since the last time we chatted here two years ago... when Kelly told me she should would live to own a home here.
Well, Kelly... we're waiting!
"Are you going to buy one?" I ask.
"You know, I picked up a real estate brochure and sent it home with Mark!"
"Don't push her... she'll buy it!" chimes in Regis!
"She wouldn't leave you?" I tease.
"No, but I'll come down and visit her!" he says with a hearty laugh.
Finally Regis has learned the secret of this city! Be best friends with someone who lives here! But even this pair taught me something about the Big Easy. This, they say, is the perfect place to get hitched! Something learned quite by accident...
"We were right downtown," recalls Regis. "I was buying a hat from Meyer the Hatter, and walked outside and there was a wedding going right by!"
Then Kelly picks up the story:
"And you know, it was so funny... there was a wedding the night before. I was out to dinner the night before with Mark and the kids and my parents, and there was a wedding right out in front of our restaurant."
"I think you all need to renew your vows!" I suggest.
"I said to Mark, this would be a great place to get married!"
"Well, I think so, too!" says Regis."It's just a great place!"
For those of you who ask me, are they really that nice?
Yes... they are. And here's my proof.
"Well, thank you all!" I say.
"Darwin, it's good to see you!" replies Regis.
And then Kelly reaches for a hug.
"Great to see you!"
The next words are for my photographer.
"Did you get that?"
