That this church is about to sponsor a huge Easter Egg hunt... for free!
And when I say huge easter Egg hunt, I mean HUGE!
When they did it last year...
"We thought we'd have a couple of neighborhoods in the community come out," says Gail McKenzie of Cross River Church. "We thought if we had a thousand people it would be worth it. After the first 5 thousand we quit counting.">
So you'd think when you're expecting a thousand people for an easter Egg hunt and more than 5 thousand show up, you'd say, no thanks, not this year! But Cross River Church is saying yes! Sources close to the event tell me it's going to cost about 20 grand to stage this easter Egg hunt. But pastor Joey Hipp says, with the economy the way it is today, it's worth the effort.
"You know what, it sure would be great to have a fun day in our community that doesn't cost anything and say, we love you guys and we want to make a difference."
"But isn't this expensive?"
"No doubt about it! Everything costs money!"
And this time, says gail, they say, they'll be ready.
"This year we have 3 times the eggs. There are 45 thousand eggs here, so me and bunny have to figure out hoe to get the kids out there for 45 thousand eggs!"
Now an event this big and this expensive is a lot for a small church, so they're hoping someone out there will see the promotional value in this event and maybe help provide sponsorship this year. At the fairgrounds, Here's Darwin, NBC 15 News.
