Whether it's hot or cold air flowing through drafty doors, we either crank up the air conditioning or the heat, then fork over major cash on high bills. A new As Seen on TV product claims that 30% of your energy bill is literally flying out the door. The Twin Draft Guard claims to cut down your utility bill by creating an air tight seal on both sides of the door.
The instructions tell you to cut the inserts to the length you need, slip them into the cover, then slide under the door and close for a draft proof seal.
We rushed in our construction expert Rafael Maldonado. He went to work trying to seal off a gap on his door. "You can feel the cold air rushing across the floor if it's winter time and it's windy," says Maldonado.
To find out if Twin Draft Guard really has no air leaks, we decided to give Mother Nature a little boost. Rafael made some homemade streamers and taped them on the other side of the door. He shut it and turned on the blow dryer. Just like that, air blew straight through the product's guaranteed draft proof seal. "In the commercial it seems to fit snug on both sides of the door. Well, that's not what happens because this is too wide. It just kind of lays open. So you got a space like that, the air just goes right up under it," says Maldonado.
In your opinion is this a deal or a dud? "It's a dud," says Maldonado.
By the way, we paid $15 dollars for the Twin Draft Guard.
