With the holidays right around the corner, there's been more slicing and dicing lately.  The As Seen on TV Slice-O-Matic is a slicing machine with a built in catch container that claims to cut down your prep time in the kitchen.

Slicing up fruits and vegetables can be exhausting and downright dangerous.  But, the Slice-O-Matic guarantees it can change that.  Your hands never touch a blade and the handy catch container keeps counter tops sparkling clean.  It promises it can cut your chopping time in half.

Here's how the infomercial says it works, " The magic is, as you tap down, a 30 point gear system propels the precision blade directly through your food and it retracts automatically."

Owner and General Manager of The Spot of Tea, Chrissi Moore carved out some time to test it out.  First up, a cucumber, and cutting this up didn't take seconds like advertised.  "My first initial go of it was, it was fairly simple, and fairly easy. But once I got into it, it started it kinking up a little bit more and a little bit more," says Moore.

With it's easy glide handle, the product claims even slices are just a tap a way, and it's as easy to use as a toaster.  But, Chrissi didn't seem to think so.  "Possibly more industrial strength or heavier would help with this process," says Moore.

Chrissi chopped potatoes, bell peppers, but really bigger vegetables seemed cumbersome.  "Most of my items that I had to use such as tomatoes or onions that I would slice on a normal basis, they were too large to fit in the actual container," says Moore.

The Julienne blade can be added to the Slice-O-Matic and Chrissi gave it a go.  "I was excited about the Julienne blade, and I was hoping to make some great French fry slices and I wasn't able to do that very easily," says Moore.

In your opinion, deal or dud? "I'm gonna have to say dud," says Moore.

But Chrissi believes the concept is there, it just needs to be more substantial, and bigger.  We made an attempt to contact the company, but did not hear back.
