A new product on the market says you can makeover any room covered with tile, and give it a showroom finish just like new. It also promises to save you lots of money.
Introducing the Grout Bully, it promises to clean, renew, and redesign your grout, every time you use it. The infomercial says to simply line up Grout Bully with your grout line and press down gently to apply, wipe off the excess, and grout bully leaves a sparkling grout line, every time.
The family owned business Wimpee's Floor Center is not so sure. Combined they've got close to 40 years experience in dealing with tile, and products that turn grout sparkling clean. After watching the commercial, owner Paul Wimpee seems skeptical. "I don't see how it did any cleaning with just swiping it on there," says Wimpee. He put his son Nelson to work giving him directions to test a few dirty grout lines. Nelson put a generous amount down, testing two lines. "I put it on waited two minutes, then wiped up the excess, it seemed like all it did was stain it, and just put a temporary fix on the actual grout," says Nelson Wimpee.
What about the secret formula's guarantee? Grout Bully promises a powerful formula that penetrates and eliminates mold, mildew and bacteria that stain grout. "All it seemed to do was put a white, light coating on there to mask what the grout really looks like and to cover up the dirt and mold and whatever is on the grout," says Wimpee. "It was just like putting white shoe polish or latex paint in an applicator bottle on the grout itself," says Nelson Wimpee.
Then, to test the longevity of the product, they used their own cleaners on Grout Bully. "Our cleaner actually removed all the coloring that the grout bully put down there without too much effort," says Wimpee.
In your opinion deal or a dud? "It's definitely a dud," says Wimpee.
