Everybody has had a broken zipper before and not many of us want to purchase new ones.  Well the As Seen on TV product called Fix a Zipper comes to the rescue here, it promises to fix any zipper in a flash.

The commercial says it works quickly and easily.  It locks in place over any zipper, and it's special design automatically grabs on to the zipper's teeth. Zip it up and your done.

Seamstress Ida Ransom at Waites Cleaners has been sewing for more than 30 years.  She's replaced thousands of zippers and says repairing them is virtually impossible.  "You can't really fix them, you have to replace them.  There's just something about zippers, most of the time they just pop back when you least expect," says Ransom.

The product promises to work on either plastic or metal zippers that go on jeans, boots, bags, and suitcases.

Ida's first order of business was a skirt zipper and after 10 minutes of trying to get it to clip on, she got it on track.  "It's zipping up, but it's popping apart, and it shouldn't do that," says Ransom.

She then pulled another broken zipper from her stash.  "I'm trying to start it on here together, otherwise it will be lopsided. It ain't easy, if anybody wanted to do this everyday for themselves. Well it's doing the same thing, it's separating, so that defeats the purpose right there," says Ransom.

While the makers say never pay big bucks to replace a zipper again.  Ida says think again.

"It's more trouble than it's worth, for what I'm seeing," says Ransom.

In your opinion is this a deal or dud? "Dud," says Ransom.

The product will cost you $10 dollars.

I'm not saying it does or does not work as advertised. My comment is that they got someone who makes a living partly by replacing broken zippers to perform an "unbiased" test.
