What looks like an egg but plays music? It's Egg Beats, the self powered silicone speakers for iPhones. There aren't any wires or batteries and it never needs recharging, it's just a green silicone egg. The commercial says all you have to do is slip your iPhone in to turn it on. The makers claim you get up to 10 times more sound and awesome clarity.
Our I.T. Manager Torri Dixon was ready to have a crack at this egg. "It's like a big chunk of silicone basically, it's a perfect design if you want to get sound out," says Dixon. Following directions he played a song, then was ready to hear if there would be a difference, so he placed the iPhone in the egg. "You just slide it in, that's pretty impressive," says Dixon.
But how does this egg amplify sound? "It has a little tunnel in it which I think amplifies the sound as it comes out. It's pressed right up on the speaker of the iPhone so it's a perfect design for what you're trying to do," says Dixon. Did Torri believe though that this little green egg was all it's cracked up to be, with 10 times more sound? "It's not like an Adobe digital sound but it is 10 times higher than what it was coming out of the iPhone," says Dixon.
For the naysayers who guessed eggbeats would just scramble their sound, Torri says time to flip that egg over, and enjoy the music. "For the price point that you pay for this, no attachments, no batteries needed, I'm very impressed," says Dixon.
In your opinion is this a deal or a dud? "This is definitely a deal," says Dixon.
By the way, Egg Beats will cost you $10.
