(Orange Beach, Ala.) - How do you get from dockside, in Orange Beach... all the way across Terry Cove to Bird Island?

Well, you'd take a taxi, of course!

That's right, a taxi.

You'd take The Water Taxi, absolutely the coolest way to get around to some of the coolest hot spots in Orange Beach and Perdido Key and part of Gulf Shores.

"If you're at Pirates Cove and you want to go to the Flora-Bama, you don't have to drive all that distance. You can get on the water taxi and we'll take you and drop you on the docks of the Flora-Bama," explained Ray Dyal.

He and his wife, Debbie, created Reel Fun Charters and Water Taxi last October.

They saw a need for those who want to get from here to there in true island style.

"People like to go out and have fun," Dyal said. "If they want to drink beer or some wine, and they're at the Flora-Bama. they don't have to worry about driving back home!"

Let's say your destination is the beach on Bird Island, near the bridge at Perdido Pass.

But don't be in a hurry.

First, stop at one of the many dockside restaurants for a bite or a beverage.

And there are always things to see along the way, like fellow boaters, or a pod of dolphins.

"When you own a water taxi," said Dyal, "you see an entirely different perspective of what we have to offer here."

Even Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon is a fan.

"I'm boatless right now," he said, "so it costs me six bucks to get a ride out here, so that's the cheapest boat I've ever had! I love it!"

That's right! The mayor said $6 each person one way!

And the view?

Well that's absolutely free!
