(SPANISH FORT, Ala.) The Eastern Shore community of Spanish Fort reaches west across the Mobile Bay Causeway, home to some of the best seafood on the coast. It also will soon be home to a one of a kind business.
You've probably seen it, growing like a weed on the banks of the Causeway, right next to the state boat ramp. It's called Lap's and it will soon join the ranks of top notch restaurants on the growing seafood strip.
"It's sort of a concept that just grew. We knew we wanted a small restaurant and bar" says Lap's owner Mike Lapeyrouse of Mobile. He intends to take Lap's where other restaurants have failed to venture.
You see, Lap's won't be just another restaurant on the Causeway. When it's finished, you won't just be able to eat and drink here, you'll be able to shop here, and you'll be able to plan your fishing trip from here as well.
"Laps is really sort of a four in one venue on the causeway that we hope is an interesting place where you can come and eat, you can buy some local goods, a great fresh seafood market, and then sectioned off is a bait and tackle shop for the locals who are fishing and hunting."
Mike is taking advantage of the causeway's location - the gateway to the Mobile River Delta. He wants Lap's to reflect that special place.
"We've got old signs form the causeway of places that have been here before that we've rounded up. We've got things that will showcase some of the animals down here, there will be a lot of interesting things to look at when you get down here. Plus the architect is doing a fantastic job of capturing the feel of the causeway" says Lapeyrouse.
