(FOLEY, Ala.) - Since the day it opened, families from all across America have been stopping in at Foley's Lambert Cafe as part of their vacation ritual.
Why? Just ask Alan Davis. He's been working at the Foley restaurant for a dozen years. And he believes he knows the secret to Lambert's success.
"It's giving somebody something they're not going to get anywhere else," said Davis. "It's just a fun atmosphere, a family atmosphere, you come in here and we're going to treat you as good as we can."
And that means big portions of southern home cooked favorites like meat loaf and chicken pot pie, ribeyes and thick country ham.
And there are those extras, called pass arounds, that are plopped on your table even before you get a plate.
It's a Foley feast families can't resist.
Here's an idea of the numbers: Lamberts has 250 employees, on any given day they'll serve more than 2000 customers, and throw as many as 9000 rolls!
Which brings us to Lambert's official mascot.
It's a roll... a roll that arrives at your table in a most unorthodox way.
"Norman Lambert came up with that," recalled Alan. "It was a busy day one day, he was trying to hand them out and he couldn't reach a man and the guy said, just throw the darn thing and he threw it to him and it just went from there!"
Lambert's Cafe is located next to the Tanger Outlet Mall on Highway 59 in Foley.
