(SARALAND, Ala.) - Exit 13 off of I-65 is one of the hottest commercial sites in Mobile County.
It's also the gateway to Saraland.
And it is hopping.
Several major national hotel chains and restaurants now call that section of Saraland home.
And the nearby Gateway commercial development site is located next to the new water tower and across the street from the new Saraland High School.
The site has already attracted two new major tenants, Regions Bank and Tractor Supply.
"We're very happy to have Tractor Supply to locate one of their stores as an anchor in our community," said Saraland Mayor Dr. Howard Rubenstein. "We've been very aggressive in trying to recruit quality businesses to Saraland and that's just an example of several businesses that have made the decision to come to be in our city."
And City Council president Newton Cromer is equally excited.
"If you look up the road where exit 13 is, that's actually going to be the connector for Highway 98," he said. "We'll be going straight to Mississippi when the connector is done, so this is a hot, hot corner of real estate. On this site we hope to have another bank, a national chain restaurant and some more retail area back here, because retail is key for economic development."
On the city's wish list for the area? More stores, of course, but maybe a bowling center and a theater.
