(MOBILE, Ala.) - The makers of sham wow claim their towels are no ordinary towels. Guaranteed to last up to 10 years, these towels are supposed to hold up to 20 times its own weight of any liquid and soak up just about anything, leaving no stain behind. It's a product many of you have e-mailed us about. LOCAL 15's Lindsay Bramson put it to the test in tonight's Buy It and Try It.

As part owner of The French Loaf, a popular restaurant in Mobile, Karen Stratton is used to cleaning up after people. But using paper towels she says takes forever and when you're running a restaurant, time is of the essence.

We decided this was the perfect opportunity to test out the ShamWow. You've probably seen the commercial, but does it easily soak up and remove cola or wine like it claims?
We decided to Buy It and Try It, first testing it with spilled water. "It's a lot better then paper towels," Stratton said. "I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it."

Okay, so it can soak up water but what about soda? We took a cup of Diet Coke and spilled it on the tile. Again, with paper towels is wasn't so easy. Stratton's brother, Danny says, "Man this is bad. I can't pick it up." But, with the shamwow, Danny says, "This is much nicer, it picks up every drop."

We then took it to a nearby car wash. ShamWow supposedly is great for drying your car after a wash. "The car part looks okay, just not on the glass," Brandon Clark said. "I don't think it's any better than just using a rag I think the guy sells it well but its just another towel."

I don't care how good my product worked...I wouldn't name it anything with the word sham in it. The Chamois which is leather has been around since the early 1800s and costs about the same as the Rayon ShamWow.
