(MOBILE, Ala.) - Reshonda Lilly will be the first to tell you living alone can sometimes be scary, especially when you're a 27-year-old female.
"But I try to keep my doors locked as much as possible," Lilly says. Sometimes she says it's hard to sleep. "Yeah, especially at night when I hear strange noises," she said.
Lilly doesn't have an alarm system because she says they're too expensive. But we found a wireless alarm system for under $20. "I've always thought about that and maybe a product like this would be excellent for me," Lilly said.
"It doesn't have all the benefits of a paid service, but it does provide quite a bit of noise which is one of the initial things you need is noise," said Mobile Police Officer Chris Levy.
Levy says the point is to send a clear message to the bad guys they don't belong in your home. "It's definitely better than nothing but none of them are gonna be guaranteed to work all the time," Levy said.
We decided to buy a wireless alarm system and try it. It's supposed to be easy to install and no tools required: just peel and stick. "Sounds great, easy," Lilly said. But, did it work?
Maybe we just didn't place it on the door hard enough. We then tried it a third time just to be safe. It didn't work.
"It's kind of disheartening," Lilly said. "Doesn't make me feel secure at all."
