(Mobile, Ala) - October 20 - You may have heard your old TV set won't work this time next year.  Pat Greenwood's report will tell you whether that's true.

The new TV's are sleek and compact, a far cry from the big, bulky units some of us are still using.  But hold on -- those old TV's aren't obsolete yet!

In fact, there is still quite a selection available at the "Best Buy" store in Mobile.

You can still buy the analog tube model televisons, but are they our most common sellers? Not at all.

You've heard me say it for five weeks now. The switch to digital television only affects you if you get your signal through an antenna on an older TV.

If you don't have the owner's manual, how do you know if your big TV has a "soon to be outdated" analog tuner?

Here's a good rule of thumb...

If you have a television that's over four or five years old, and it's a CRT, one that's got the large back to it, and it's a tube television as we all recall it, most likely, it's gonna be analog. They are slowly starting to phase out analog tuners in televisions.

Remember, if you have an analog TV and you get your signal strictly through an antenna, that TV will still work with a converter box which is being sold at most electronic retail stores. With a government-issued coupon, that converter box will cost you about $20. For more information on those coupons, click on the "How Ready are you for DTV" tab, and that will take you to a helpful website.
