(Mobile, Ala) - May 19 - I
f you watch our newscasts on NBC15 via satellite or cable, you're already prepared for the mid-February switch to digital television."In the beginning, when information was starting to come out, it was unofficial, and there were all kind of stories happening." says Ray Kistler with Comcast Cable. "Our customer service representatives here, our techicians were getting all sorts of questions and they were having to calm people down, saying 'don't worry as long as you're a cable customer, it's all good.'"
And the clearer picture of what will actually happen doesn't necessarily mean an increase in cable customers. not yet anyway.
"Right now, they're seeking information," says Kistler. "They're calling us, they're watching you asking our technicians. As long as the signal doesn't go away, there's not a whole lot. We've had some people saying yes, I want to go (on cable) because I don't want to miss anything, but we think as time goes on and we get closer to February 17, the people who now pick up their signal off rabbit ears, we think there will be a lot of people coming on wanting to get cable."
In our next report, Ray tells us if Comcast customers need digital cable to receive digital TV.
