MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Attorneys for a man accused of throwing his four children from an Alabama coastal bridge to their deaths have asked a judge for funds to travel to Vietnam to interview their client's relatives.
Lam Luong, a 38-year-old shrimp boat worker who came to the U.S. at age 13, faces trial on capital murder charges. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.
Luong has pleaded not guilty to the charge of throwing the children - ages 4 months to 3 years -from the Dauphin Island bridge in January after an argument with his wife. A search recovered the bodies.
Luong's attorneys asked Mobile County Circuit Judge Charles Graddick on Tuesday for funds to travel to Vietnam to prepare for his March 9 trial. Graddick did not immediately rule on the request.
