A Flash Flood Watch is in place for our area on Monday...along with a risk for Severe Weather.
This evening, a gradual increase in rainfall will take place as showers roll in from the Gulf Coast and move inland ahead of a warm front. Isolated severe storms are possible as the warm front moves inland thru Monday morning. By the afternoon, the heat of the day (increasing instability)...an increase in wind shear (change in wind speed & direction with height), plentiful moisture, and lift in the atmosphere (affilliated with an upper low & the approaching surface cold front) will all work together to maximize the risk for severe storms...which includes the potential for tornadoes, hail, and damaging wind. Therefore, make sure to have a plan in place just in case a Warning is issued.
Rainfall, and a lot of it, is expected with Monday's storm system. Estimates of 2-4 inches of rainfall are possible...which could lead to FLASH FLOODING since the grounds are already saturated & the rivers are high. So, be on alert for rapidly rising water....and remember to NEVER drive over a flooded roadway (Turn Around & Don't Drown).
The entire system moves out of our area by Tuesday morning. Cooler air will move in...then, a reinforcing shot of COLDER air moves in by the end of the week. So, next weekend looks unseasonably chilly...STAY TUNED.
