If you have any plans to head out tonight and celebrate the New Year, the clouds may threaten rain, but none is expected. Leave the umbrella at home, but take a jacket as temps hover in the mid to upper 50s through this evening and into tonight. New Year's Day will be cloudy with showers moving in later in the day as a cold front moves through the area. The best chance of rain Tuesday will be along and west of I-65 and north of I-10, mainly during the afternoon hours. No storms are expected.

The area of rain will actually fall apart as it moves closer to the region, so some areas will see little to no rain from this system. The front will stall offshore as a wave of low pressure moves out of the Gulf and tracks along the front. This will bring a secondary wave of rain to the region on Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and Wednesday night. The best chances for rain with this second wave will be along and east of I-65. Again, no storms are expected.

Rain moves out early Thursday with sunshine returning Friday into the weekend. Temperatures will be around 70 on Tuesday to start the new year, then fall back into the 50s behind the front for the rest of the week. The mornings won't get chilly again, until the clouds clear out. Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning will see another round of freezing temperatures. A slow warm-up commences the latter half of the weekend and next week with 60s returning to the region.
