A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for areas east of I-65 through tomorrow morning. This includes parts of SW Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Rainfall totals could average between 3-5" in some areas. Up to 6" of rain is possible in isolated locales where storms repeat themselves over the same area. Local rivers are swollen, and some rivers and creeks are expected to rise even higher due to recent heavy rains.
It's important to remember the phrase Turn Around Don't Drown, when water covers the roadway, and you're unsure of it's depths. Each year, more people lose their lives due to flooding than from any other severe weather related hazard. One reason could be that they underestimate the power and force of water. More than half of flood deaths result from vehicles being swept downstream. Many times this scenario is avoidable.
If you live in a flood prone area, be prepared to move to higher ground should conditions warrant. Stay tuned into the forecast.
