Today's pollen count is 9.8, which is high. Tomorrow through Saturday will be medium to high. The major pollen right now locally is Ash and Oak.
It's during the Spring months that the pollen count can skyrocket and create a path of misery for allergy sufferers. For those that are allergic, it can cause a host of problems such as a runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, ect... A ton of pollen will soon be released into the air by weeds, grass, and trees, which in turn fertilizes other plants. In the next few weeks, you'll notice greener lawns, blooming trees and more weeds, that's a sign that the pollen count is beginning to climb. The pollen count determines the amount of allergens in the air in grains per cubic meter. When the winds kick up, it can spread pollen for miles. So, it doesn't even have to be in your neighborhood, for you to feel the effects of it. When it's windy the pollen count goes up. But, it drops way down on wet days, because the rainwater washes away the allergens. While it's nearly impossible to avoid Spring allergies, here's how you can minimize some of the headache.
*Stay inside when the pollen count is very high (it's highest in the mornings).
*Keep windows shut to prevent the allergens from blowing inside.
*Dust your furniture, and clean vents where pollen can collect.
*Sweep and vacuum once a week, pollen can get trapped under rugs, housemats and carpet. (Wearing a mask is a good idea, as these chores can get the pollen swirling in the air).
