Isolated severe storms rolled across parts of the Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sept. 30th ahead of an approaching cold front. There were several severe storm warnings...including tornado warnings...for parts of Southern Mississippi and SW Alabama that afternoon & early evening.
One tornado warning in particular was issued by the National Weather Service in Mobile for Stone County in Mississippi near McHenry (south of Wiggins)... at 4:09pm. Based on survey reports, it was confirmed that there indeed was a tornado that hit this area at about 4:19pm just southwest of Pine Avenue. The twister moved northeast towards Pine Avenue and got stronger...reaching EF-1 strength with estimate winds ranging from 86-110mph. It took the roof completely off one structure...with more roof damage reported on several other structures. The tornado is reported to have continued moving NE across Hwy 49 before lifting once it got to near Wire road...at about 4:24pm.
Thankfully, there were no injuries or fatalities.
