August 2012 is a Blue Moon month. Have you ever heard the saying..."Once in a Blue Moon?" Well, people tend to use that cliche in reference to a situation that rarely takes place...or when something doesn't happen often. However, many people don't know that there actually is a "Blue Moon," but it's not really blue in color.
A Blue Moon occurs when there are two full moons in one month...the 2nd full moon for that month is called the "Blue Moon." It rarely happens...usually only once every 2 or 3 years. So, the cliche "Once in a Blue Moon" is a legitimate saying. This year, the "Blue Moon" will take place on August 31st...that's the 2nd full moon of the month. The first full moon is on August 1st.
The next time we'll get to see another "Blue Moon" (or two full moons in one month) will be in July 2015. And guess what...there will actually be an even more rare event in 2018. That's when there will be 2 different Blue Moon Months.
